Earth

Black ceramics sculpture / 2024

€350.00

"Earth" explores the dual nature of human existence—our connection to both the spiritual and physical realms. The smooth, mystical form of the black ceramic head captures the essence of the spiritual world, while the raw, grounding concrete base symbolizes the physical earth.

The subtle hues and textures left by the firing process lend a sense of mystery and magic to the sculpture, as if it holds secrets of the unseen. Yet, anchored in concrete, it remains rooted, reminding us that as humans, we are both dreamers and doers—spiritual beings living a physical experience.

"Earth" invites viewers to reflect on balance: finding harmony between the ethereal and the grounded, the intangible and the tangible.

Material: Clay, fired in a black ceramics kiln, concrete base

Measurements: ± 23 x 32 x 35 cm

Weight: ± 7 kg

Black ceramics, one of the oldest forms of clay firing, has been known since Neolithic times but is now a dying art. The process involves slowly raising the temperature of a kiln buried in the ground to extract moisture before adding firewood to start the fuming process. As the clay absorbs smoke and fines, its pores close, resulting in a unique and unrepeatable black finish. This process takes days and is subject to the unpredictable elements of nature, making each creation a one-of-a-kind piece.
